Dental Implant Treatment for Single Tooth Replacement By Craig Goldin DDS on May 22, 2017

Dental implant for single tooth replacementAt the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute, our experienced dentists are dedicated to helping patients maintain the health, strength, and beauty of their natural teeth. Unfortunately, that goal cannot always be achieved. There are a number of factors that can lead to the loss of natural teeth. And while tooth loss is not ideal, it doesn’t mean that an individual cannot continue to enjoy a smile that is strong and attractive.

Dental implants are permanent fixtures that replace the roots of missing teeth and act as the foundation for a full range of dental restorations. Dental implants are the most secure treatment for missing teeth and are the closest replication a patient will find for the natural teeth. That is why we recommend dental implants for any patient who has suffered tooth loss, even if they are missing just a single tooth.

We are happy to offer dental implants for single tooth replacement at our practice serving Birmingham, MI and Bloomfield Hills, MI.

Dental Implants for Single Tooth Replacement

Dental implants are fairly new in the world of dental restorations, but people have quickly come to see the many benefits that dental implants offer. Still, it remains a common misconception that dental implants are only suitable for the loss of multiple teeth, or that it is not worth the time or cost to undergo dental implants treatment if just a single tooth has been lost. The truth is that dental implants are a great option for any patient who has suffered from tooth loss, even if only a single tooth is missing.

Dental implants treatment for single tooth replacement is just like treatment for multiple teeth. We will begin by surgically implanting a tiny titanium screw into the jawbone. Because only a single tooth is missing, just a single implant will be placed. When the implant has fused with the jawbone, the patient will return so we can attach an abutment, which is a metal post that extends from the gum line. After the abutment has healed, we will complete treatment by bonding a dental restoration to the abutment. For single tooth replacement, that restoration will be a dental crown.

Benefits of Dental Implants

It is true that dental implants treatment is lengthy, and is more costly than other restorative dentistry treatments. However, it is well worth investing in dental implants, even if just a single tooth is missing.  Dental implants are unique from other dental restorations in that they provide patients with the following benefits:

  • Dental implants offer superior strength and security, and will never slip out of place
  • Dental implants are more durable than other dental restorations and should last a lifetime
  • Dental implants are the only dental restoration that stimulate the jawbone, which can minimize the risk of additional tooth loss
  • Dental implants look and function just like the natural teeth and require no special care instructions
