Everyone has unique dental concerns. Some have one or more missing teeth and hope to restore the appearance and health of their smile. Others simply want fillings that blend in with their natural teeth. And still others may come to us to treat snoring, sleep apnea or jaw pain. For patients in Troy and around Birmingham, Bloomfield, and Clawson, Michigan, we offer dental implants (implant dentistry), TMJ treatment, dentures, and more.

Whatever your concern, we can help. Below are the services we offer in addition to our standard cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Dental Implants

Our patients have found dental implants to be an exciting development in the art of replacing lost teeth. The previous treatments of choice – dentures and bridges – had several disadvantages; bridges could fail and dentures could fit badly and be a hassle to maintain. Dental implants have none of these drawbacks. At the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute in Troy, Michigan, we take pride in offering high quality dental implants and implant dentistry treatment.

Dental implants are strongly anchored to the jaw using a titanium alloy. On top of this post goes a custom-made tooth that mimics the size, shape, and color of your lost tooth. With dental implants in place, no one will know you are missing one or more teeth, and the strength of your bite and the beauty of your smile will be restored. Our patients from throughout the Troy, Michigan area find dental implants and implant dentistry an easy-to-maintain alternative to dentures, bridges, and other restorations.

Don’t put up with missing teeth. They can damage the health of your jaw as well as negatively affect your appearance and keep you from enjoying your favorite foods. Contact the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute today to schedule an appointment.

Dentures

Some of our Troy, Michigan area patients desire dentures after experiencing the loss of most of their teeth. If you are missing many or all of your teeth, dentures are necessary to keep your facial muscles from sagging, to restore the strength of your bite, and to allow you to speak as usual. To outfit you with dentures, we remove any remaining teeth and take careful measurements of your mouth and gums. A well-fitting pair of dentures is comfortable to wear and restores the attractiveness of your face and smile. Our patients from around Clawson and Troy, Michigan have found that dentures can be a good solution to many missing teeth.

There are several different kinds of dentures. Complete dentures are the most common. Complete dentures replace all of your upper and lower teeth. Next, upper dentures are made out of the same materials as complete dentures, but outfit the upper jaw only. Over dentures are similar to complete dentures, but use a few remaining teeth to make them more stable. Lastly, partial dentures fix gaps in your smile created by a few missing teeth, and are important to prevent your teeth from shifting.

It takes an experienced dentist to outfit you with a great-fitting, great-looking pair of dentures, and the team at Cosmetic Dentistry Institute is up to the task. We can outfit you with removable partial dentures if you are missing a few teeth on a particular arch, or we can provide a set of complete dentures.

Natural-Colored Dental Fillings

Our office provides composite resin dental fillings to our patients, which have several advantages over traditional silver fillings. First, they are tooth-colored, so your fillings will no longer stand out against your teeth. Plus, they don’t contain mercury, which many physicians feel can affect your health – and to top it all off, they can be bonded to the tooth eliminating the leakage that silver fillings have. For these reasons, we often replace patients’ old silver fillings with natural-colored composite fillings and use composite when filling patients’ teeth.

TMJ Treatment

TMJ disorder is a complex condition that affects the jaw (temporomandibular) joint, or TMJ. Many patients from around Troy, Michigan, have come to us seeking TMJ treatment after experiencing pain in the jaw or other symptoms, such as clicking of the jaw.

Disorders of the TMJ can cause many annoyances, including inability to fully open the mouth and various types of tooth, ear, jaw, and facial pain. TMJ disorders can be caused by trauma (such as grinding the teeth), disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis), habits (clenching the jaw, for example, during periods of stress), or simply aging.

TMJ disorders can take years to develop, and are often caused by malocclusion (bad bite) – a condition that, fortunately, can usually be solved easily, without surgery. In patients with facial or jaw pain, it’s often useful to carefully study the nerves, soft tissues, and muscles of that region. Often, this study can reveal the extent of malocclusion and suggest ways it can be corrected.

Since many different things can be the source of pain in the facial region, TMJ treatment and diagnosis can be tricky. However, our experienced dentists at the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute have diagnosed many cases of TMJ disorders over the years and are skilled at noticing the condition. If you are in the Troy, Michigan area, rely on us for effective TMJ treatment. Contact us today.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a common but potentially life-threatening condition. It occurs when the airway becomes obstructed during sleep, but efforts to breathe continue. Those with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing during sleep, sometimes hundreds of times a night. This lack of oxygen can cause the patient to wake many times a night, leaving them unable to fully rest.

It is important to recognize and treat sleep apnea. The condition may be associated with high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke, and can lead to vehicle crashes, drowsiness, and job impairment. If you find yourself habitually drowsy, you might have sleep apnea and we urge you to schedule an examination at our office. The dentists at the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute are experienced in recognizing and treating sleep apnea. To learn more about this condition, contact us today.

As dentists who are familiar with the anatomy of the mouth and throat, we can outfit you with an oral sleep appliance which prevents snoring by keeping your airway open. Most snoring sufferers don’t have a serious medical disorder, but snoring is something worth treating. If you or your partner is affected by snoring, contact the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute today.
