At the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute, we can permanently and securely replace your missing teeth with dental restorations using dental implants. We welcome you to schedule a consultation at our Troy cosmetic dentistry practice; we will make your dental needs a priority. Here are some of the popular dental restorations used with dental implants.

Dental Crowns

When used with dental implants, dental crowns are the favored way to replace individual teeth. This type of restoration begins with the dental implant, a titanium post, being surgically placed in the empty tooth socket within the jawbone. As the bone heals around the metal post, a permanent bond is formed. The post will act as an artificial tooth root to which a tooth-shaped prosthetic, the dental crown, will be attached. When crowns top off dental implants, they function, feel, and look like your very own teeth; this is why so many patients are opting for this particular type of restoration. Though replacing a full set of teeth with implant-supported crowns is possible, this type of restoration is best for patients only missing a few teeth. The following types of restorations are better suited to replacing multiple teeth.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are another type of restoration that can be used with dental implants. Three or more teeth can be replaced using an implant-supported dental bridge. The dental bridge is generally made of porcelain and includes one or more teeth attached to two supporting teeth. With implant-supported dental bridges, the dental implants act as the supporting teeth on either side of the bridge. This type of restoration is a good option for those missing three or more teeth in a row, since a greater number of teeth can be replaced while only using two dental implants. Minimizing the number of implants placed helps reduce cost and makes for a more comfortable recovery.

Implant-Supported Dentures

For those missing all of their teeth on either the bottom jaw or top jaw, implant-supported dentures are a great option. When dental implants are used to secure dentures, three to five implants are typically placed. The dentures are custom-made for a comfortable fit. A thin metal bar or metal studs are placed on the underside of the denture to attach to the dental implants. Implant supported dentures can be removed for cleaning but will stay in place with the stud or bar attachment while you eat and talk. Implant-supported dentures won't slip and slide like traditional removable dentures, resulting in increased comfort and security. Implant-supported dentures ensure you can eat, speak, and go about your daily activities with the confidence of knowing your teeth are firmly anchored in place.
