The Cosmetic Dentistry Institute has been caring for families in the Detroit metro area since 1950, when it was founded by Dr. Harold Greenbert. His daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Craig and Marcy Goldin, later transformed the practice into the award-winning destination it is today. A Place You Will Actually Want to Visit

Most dental offices look like dental offices. Ours was designed to feel like somewhere you would actually choose to spend your time. When you visit, you will notice the difference immediately: warm blankets during your procedure, movies and headphones to help you relax, refreshments before and after treatment, and even a paraffin hand wax if you want one. These are small things, maybe, but they add up to an experience that feels nothing like the sterile, anxiety-inducing dental visits most people dread.

Our Troy office was designed with one goal: making every visit feel like an experience, not an appointment.

The American Dental Association honored our office with its Dental Office Design of the Year award for its technology, ergonomics, and commitment to patient comfort. That recognition reflects something we believe deeply: exceptional care and exceptional comfort belong in the same practice.

But a beautiful office is only part of the equation. Our practice uses advanced dental technology like digital X-rays, dental CT three-dimensional imaging, and a CEREC® system that lets us create custom porcelain crowns in a single visit. That technology, combined with the training and credentials our team brings to the table, has made us a destination for some of the most advanced restorative work available. From individual dental implants to full-arch solutions like All-on-4 dental implants that can give someone a completely new smile in a single day, this is the work that drives me. I have watched patients walk in embarrassed to smile in front of their own families, and walk out with a fixed, permanent set of beautiful, natural-looking teeth. That never gets old.

About Me

A Happy Return Home

I am David Whalen, and I have the privilege of leading the clinical team here at the Cosmetic Dentistry Institute. I graduated in the top 5% of my class at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, completed my residency at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, and went on to earn accreditation through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a distinction held by fewer than 430 dentists in the world. That process challenged me to master a wide range of cosmetic disciplines, and it is something I am deeply proud of. I have also earned a fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry, an achievement reached by only 6% of general dentists.

Before joining CDI, I practiced in Traverse City for several years. I loved it there, but Southeast Michigan is where my family is, where my roots are, and ultimately where I knew I belonged. When the opportunity to join this practice came along, I recognized it for what it was: a chance to be part of something truly special.

Dr. Gloria No is the newest addition to our team, and she fits right in. Gloria earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, the same school that trained me. Her philosophy is rooted in trust. She takes the time to listen, to explain, and to build a relationship before she ever picks up an instrument. She understands that for a lot of people, dental visits are stressful, and she is committed to making every appointment as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible. Gloria brings the same commitment to clinical precision that defines our practice, and she does it with a personal touch that patients notice immediately. When she is not at the office, she is at home with her partner and their three rescue dogs, cooking and trying new recipes. That is the kind of person she is: warm, grounded, and real.
